District Vision Statement

Education is more than a direction or a destination; it is a process which recognizes, enhances, and celebrates individual accomplishments.

Belmont-Redwood Shores School District, in the breadth of its curricula and variety of its approaches to facilitate learning, provides an environment which nurtures and stimulates the intelligence, insight, and natural curiosity of all individuals. 

Our learning community promotes and advances the intellectual, physical, social, and moral development of students in becoming responsible, contributing citizens.  Students learn to work and live together constructively by respecting, honoring, and appreciating the uniqueness in themselves and others.

GOAL 1- STUDENTS AND STANDARDS: The Belmont-Redwood Shores School District will provide a well-rounded standards-based curriculum that challenges all students to meet or exceed academic standards.

 

OBJECTIVE 1:  All students are challenged and supported to meet or exceed grade level standards as indicated in the Academic Performance Index and local assessments and will transition to the core standards.

 

OBJECTIVE 2:   Students in the English learner subgroup will advance one performance level from the prior year as indicated on the results of the ELA and Math CSTs.

 

OBJECTIVE 3:   Students will improve performance in the algebra math strand through active participation in lessons and learning activities supported by intervention programs.

 

GOAL 2 - TEACHING AND LEARNING:  The Belmont-Redwood Shores School District recognizes the vital role that teachers and high quality instruction play in ensuring student success.  The District values and supports teachers so that they might provide instruction that is rigorous and standards-based. 

 

OBJECTIVE 1:  Teachers are supported to provide instruction that is rigorous and standards-based though professional development opportunities, collaboration and allocating resources that focus on raising student achievement.

 

OBJECTIVE 2:  Staff development opportunities will be provided to support personnel who assist students and particularly students with disabilities, English Learners and those not meeting standards. 

 

OBJECTIVE 3:   Staff will be engaged in a collaborative process for implementing the Great Body Shop Health curriculum.

 

GOAL 3 – SAFETY AND LEARNINGThe Belmont-Redwood Shores School District will provide leadership and utilize principles of systems management, organizational development, and problem solving to better serve students in maintaining a safe campus and efficient learning environment.

 

OBJECTIVE 1:  Disaster preparedness efforts will continue and school safety plans will be updated on a yearly basis.

 

OBJECTIVE 2:  Implement and evaluate the Healthy Schools Initiative Pilot Program for district wide replication to develop a coordinated and comprehensive approach to student wellness.

 

GOAL 4 - HUMAN RESOURCES:  The Belmont-Redwood Shores School District will attract, retain and develop a professional work force that exhibits the skills unique to their responsibilities, shows technological proficiencies and supports the District’s strategic goals.

 

OBJECTIVE 1:  The District will attract and retain highly qualified teachers through strategic recruitment efforts and maintaining competitive compensation.

 

OBJECTIVE 2:   Monitor on a regular basis the improvement of the work force in terms of qualifications and performance standards to meet and support student learning.

 

GOAL 5 - COMMUNICATION: The Belmont-Redwood Shores School District will develop an aware, involved, engaged, and knowledgeable community by maintaining, enhancing, and extending communication outreach activities.

 

OBJECTIVE 1:  The Belmont-Redwood Shores School District will implement an effective communication system between departments and with the community to inform and engage internal and external audiences via newsletters, community meetings, and committee work.

 

OBJECTIVE 2:   A District Advisory Committee will be established to review the District’s registration policies and implement a no boundary student registration process for the 2012-13 school year.

 

GOAL 6 - RESOURCES:  The Belmont-Redwood Shores School District will operate in a fiscally sound manner by optimizing available funding, seeking additional sustainable funding sources and planning prudently for the future.

 

OBJECTIVE 1:  The budget will be a reflection of the District goals and strategic plan.

 

OBJECTIVE 2:   Through the Budget Advisory Committee, establish a plan, process and timeline for working with employee bargaining groups, community, administration and Board of Education to receive input and gains consensus in order to align income and expenses.

 

OBJECTIVE 3:   Develop a Bond Oversight Committee for the new bond and continue working on the Facilities Master Plan to prioritize facilities needs and accommodate student growth.

 

GOAL 7 - TECHNOLOGY:  The Belmont-Redwood Shores School District will maintain technology infrastructure and hardware that will promote efficiency and technology-based programs to meet the needs of our staff and students.  

 

OBJECTIVE 1:   The District’s Technology Committee will update the Education Technology Plan and assist in identifying funding sources to support the Plan’s goals, objectives and prioritized needs.

 

OBJECTIVE 2:   The District’s Technology Committee will develop and implement a needs assessment to determine student technology access that will serve as a baseline for implementing performance standards for technology and information literacy skills that are aligned with the Core Standards.
