21st Century Learning in BRSSD

The schools in the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District are currently practicing the development of 21st Century learning skills through incorporating many advanced technologies found in their classrooms. They are using advanced technologies such as notebook computers, iPads, interactive SMARTBoards, high-speed wireless networks, document cameras and a set of online learning services through the San Mateo County Office of Education web-portal. However, the main focus of BRSSD is not just about acquiring the technologies, but how BRSSD teachers are constructing their lessons through good pedagogy utilizing the broader 21st century frameworks for learning and building capacity for the challenges of the Common Core technology standards. The common themes that emerge from the 21st century frameworks are that children need to not only master core academic content but must be proficient with a set of skills as identified in this overview of the 21st Century Framework:
